Could your neighbour save your life in an emergency?

On Thursday, the 11th of June 2009, a trial course named “First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED)” with the theme “Could your neighbour save your life in an emergency?” took place at Monte Pego.
More than 40 people from the urbanisation Monte Pego followed the invitation of Cardioprotec, who organized this course, and arrived at the presentation hall at 18 o’clock.
The trainers Pascal Kolb and Arnd Grootz informed why first aid is so important and in which case it can save lives. Especially in urbanisations, which are further away from the eventually needed ambulance, this neighbour-helping-program is reasonable. In Spain more than 24.000 people each year suffer from a sudden cardiac arrest. In more than 85% of these out of hospital emergencies basic life support and a correctly used automated external defibrillator (AED) could save lives. Because of this every neighbour should know how to start the chain of survival and how to take first helping steps. Thereby the course of action in case of severe injuries, shock and unconsciousness was also shown.
Additionally to the presentations in English, German and Spanish, first practical exercises and scenarios of courses of Cardioprotec were demonstrated.

First aid saves lives, increases everyone’s safety and is easy to learn – the participants of this course already took the first step in this direction.
